Crimson King heralds the arrival of autumn. It is a sasanqua, one of the autumn flowering camellia family from Japan.
This is a strong growing, moderately scented sasanqua. The flowers are single crimson red with contrasting yellow stamens, making an eye catching combination.
Used as a specimen tree, clipped into a hedge, added to a mixed border, used in cottage or Japanese gardens, planted around patio areas or used as a backdrop for smaller plants.
If left to its own desires Crimson King will grow to around 2-2.5m high by 1.5-2m after 10 years.
For tight hedging that will be regularly clipped, space about 60-70cm apart. For a looser look, plant at 100cm.
