This classic, clingstone variety needs no introduction. A true favourite for bottling, and an excellent eater. Firm, deep orange flesh. Juicy with a good flavour. Self fertile. Late season – harvest February. Grows approximately 5m high x 4m wide in 10 years.
Grow in a sunny, sheltered position in fertile, well drained soil. Tolerates light frosts. Protect from spring frosts while fresh buds are emerging. Water deeply during dry periods and fruit formation.
The Golden Queen is reputed to have first been grown in New Zealand in the garden of a Mrs Reeves in Tauranga.
