Beautiful small or medium sized shrub with deep green divided leaves with red tip and sulphur yellow flower-heads in winter-spring. Perfers a moist root system but will tolerate some drying out once well established. Great plant for narrow areas in full sun on the coast and shade inland areas. Prune for a more compact growth. Great cut flower and makes a beautiful informal hedge or screen.
Isopogon anethifolius can grow up to 3 m tall in sheltered forest conditions, but is also found as a smaller shrub in heathland.
The leaves of Isopogon anethifolius distinguish it from other varieties. They are rigid, 4 -16 cm long, with tough divided segments, very fine narrow.
Clusters of small yellow flowers are crowded in a spiral formation into a squat cone-shaped flower head. When the flowers of Isopogon anethifolius die the cone is a head of tiny hairy nuts. Main flowering time is September to November, but can spot flower most of the year.
