Metrosideros 'Mistral' is a natural hybrid of M. excelsa and M. robusta discovered on Great Barrier Island. It features deep scarlet flowers form late spring on dark green foliage.
It forms a tidy, small tree that grows compact and upright. It can be trimmed to form a larger hedge or shelter. Like all Pohutukawa, it will tolerate very tough conditions including salt-laden windy positions, poor dry soil and full sun. Can grow to around 5x3m after 10 years.
