'Honey Velvet' is a rarely available Michelia variety, from Taranaki plant breeder Mark Jury. Selected for its beautiful cream flowers, long flowering season and high plant health. Compact growth makes this Michelia ideal for suburban gardens. It can be readily clipped for shaping or hedging, or left alone as a small specimen tree. Grows to around 2m x 1.5m. Will tolerate frost once established in position. Best suited to a sunny position where soils are fertile and moist as well as free draining.
This is a Magnolia dianica (syn: Michelia yunnanensis) selection by Mark Jury. It does not appear to defoliate in a cold, wet spring as some of the M.dianicas can do.
