Olearia paniculata, commonly known as akiraho, is found on the west coast from Raglan down to Greymouth and from East Cape to Oamaru on the east coast.
It forms a shrub or small tree and can grow between 2-4m, or if given more space can grow up to 6m. The light green leaves usually have very wavy margins and a white to buff tomentum beneath. The tiny flowers are borne in autumn and are fragrant. Can be used as a shelter or hedging, and tolerates coastal conditions but must have very good drainage.
