A hardy tree which tolerates wind & coastal conditions. This selection is from Stephens Island (Takapourewa), at the top of the Cook Strait. It has some resemblance to both Pittosporum tenuifolium and Pittosporum crassifolium. The small pointed foliage is smooth, blue/grey-green with a slight grey/green tomentose appearance.
Excellent as a specimen, shelter, dense hedging, or visual buffer.
Drought, wind, frost, and salt tolerant and grows in most soils.
Produces small dark red scented flowers from September to November. A wide range of birds and insects are attracted to the nectar, fruit and seeds.
Grows to 3m after 10 years and can mature to 10m if allowed.
