A large, handsome sedge that has green billowing leaves when planted in a shady position, otherwise it takes on a yellow-green colour in open situations with the colour being intensified in the winter.
Not only does it form wonderful rounded mounds of glossy green foliage, over a period of time it forms little 'haystacks' of old foliage and root that give it an appearance of a gradually increasing central stem which becomes more of a feature with age.
Suitable for very wet and damp positions, swamps or around the sides of ponds. Carex secta acts as a filter for streams and wet lands taking out nutrients and sediment. This is one of the most important plant species to help clean up and maintain waterways. Large root system help prevent erosion.
Its is also a very important plant in wet land areas as it will take up dissolved nitrogen.

Grows to around 1x1m. Mature specimens and get to 1.5m.
