Tough and tenacious, Chionochloa flavicans provides shapely foliage all year round and elegant pale creamy-green flower plumes in mid-summer. Its a great plant to use for low maintenance gardens, grouped among other easy-care subjects such as Carex testacea, Astelia Silver Spear, Clianthus Kaka King and Brachyglottis Otari Cloud. Chionochloa flavicans is wind and drought tolerant and is a superb plant to use as a cover on exposed banks and other tough places. When grown on a wall or bank you get to look up into the arching flower plumes, which makes them even more appealing.
One of the most beautiful New Zealand grasses, both graceful and tough. In summer its toetoe blooms look great as they sway in the breeze and add air and grace to the garden. In the winter, it’ll withstand the coldest of conditions, though shelter from harsh winds enhances its beauty. | ||||||||||
