The lilac-blue flowerheads of this fascinating plant attract beneficial insects such as hoverflies and bees that improve pollination and provide natural pest control. Plant in drifts in garden beds or dot amongst other plants.
Position
Sun or part shade.
Sow
Sow direct where they are to grow or into trays of Yates Black Magic Seed Raising Mix. Press lightly into surface – do not cover as seeds need light to germinate. Water with a mist spray and retain moisture by covering with glass or plastic cling wrap. Transplant or thin when large enough to handle.
Care
Choose a full sun to semi-shade position with well drained soil. Add Yates Blood & Bone before planting. Water at the base during dry periods.
Hint
Phacelia attracts hoverflies which are natural aphid killers. Plant close to roses, tomatoes, lettuce, citrus and other plants that are often attacked by aphids to encourage natural insect control.
