Sticcoli produces lots of slender, elegant stems, with small florets. Stems are extra-sweet and tender, and don’t need to be peeled. This chef’s favourite, previously only found in supermarkets, is actually a clever hybrid of standard broccoli and Gai Lan (Chinese broccoli).
Position
Full sun.
Sow
Sow into trays of Yates® Black Magic® Seed Raising Mix. Firm down and keep moist. Transplant when about 7cm high.
Care
Choose a sunny, well-drained position. Plant in a different garden bed each year to avoid soil-borne diseases. Dig in Yates® Thrive® Natural Blood & Bone before planting. Protect from snails and slugs. Control leaf-eating caterpillars with Yates® Success™ Ultra Insect Control.
Hint
Pinch out the first head to encourage lots of side shoots. The long stems are just as tasty as the florets.
