Carex buchananii looks stunning when planted in large drifts. It is a must-have plant for any landscaping project. It's a native hair sedge which forms upright clumps of fine, hair-like leaves of a bronzy-cinnamon colour. Growing to about 75cm, it is best grown in full sun, but will tolerate light shade.
It was first described in 1880 by Sven Berggren, who gave it the specific epithet, Buchanani (now buchananii), to honour the New Zealand botanist, John Buchanan.
