Corokia x virgata 'Bronze King', is a common natural hybrid between two New Zealand evergreen shrubs, Corokia cotoneaster and Corokia buddleioides.

'Bronze King' is smothered in stunning clusters of fragrant yellow star-shaped flowers along the branches in mid spring. It features an abundance of magnificent red berries in early fall. It has coppery-bronze-variegated grayish green foliage. The fuzzy oval leaves remain grayish green throughout the winter.

These sculptural plants are best appreciated in their own space so the intricate branching can be appreciated, but can be pruned into low hedges, or used as higher screening.

All Corokia are suitable for hedging. The spacing will depend on the height you require. For a low hedge of between 0.5-1m, plant them 30cm apart. For a hedge of between 1-2m, plant around 50cm apart.

The downy felt, tangled stems, and small bronzy variegated leaves are all a defence against a windy climate - perfect for Wellington!
