This 'English' type lavender has a soft sweet smell that many of us associate with Grandma’s handkerchief. Lavandula angustifolia 'Pacific Blue’ is an excellent example of this with a delightful soft fragrance. It is a medium sized lavender growing to about 80cm tall. It has purple flowers in mid to late spring and likes full sun with good drainage and an annual feed of gypsum or dolomite lime and Ican Slow Food slow release fertiliser.
L. ‘Pacific Blue’’ was raised in New Zealand by the Food and Crop research department as a possible commercial oil producer. It is an excellent plant for both oil and cut flower, makes a nice hedge and looks great as a specimen plant. Plant along the driveway, 55cm apart for a stunning border.
