Magnolia Grandiflora Ferruginea is an evergreen magnolia that flowers in the summertime rather than spring like its deciduous cousins. The cultivar ‘Ferruginea’ differentiates itself by its copper red colouring of the under leaf. It flowers mid to late summer with goblet shaped flowers of creamy white and as one would expect, highly fragrant. A beautiful decorative, evergreen tree with compact growth habit.
Magnolia Grandiflora Ferrunginea’s ovate foliage is a deep glossy green all year round with a coppery red colouring on the leathery underleaf. In breezy weather this feature is highly attractive. In summer showy, large and fragrant flowers burst from woolly tipped buds. These goblet-shaped cream flowers are citrus-scented and measure up to nine inches across. Magnolia flowers are truly stunning and many gardeners choose this tree purely for its yearly flower display.
Magnolia Grandiflora Ferruginea has a more compact habit than the standard Magnolia grandiflora. making it suitable for most sized garden. Its maximum height is approximately ten metres with a five metre spread. Its canopy of tidy foliage develops into a rounded shape and doesn’t drop in the winter.
