'Beurre Bosc' is an heirloom variety of pear first recorded in Europe in the early 1800's. it is a medium-sized deciduous fruiting tree with an upright, pyramidal habit. Fragrant white flowers are borne in spring, followed by elongated conical fruit which matures in mid to late autumn. The fruit is juicy and buttery with a slightly grainy texture and is distinguished by its cinnamon-brown, russetted flesh - an excellent variety perfect as a dessert pear. Taste develops after 3-4 weeks in the refrigerator.
As most pears need cross pollination, the planting of more than one variety is recommended or the growing of a double grafted tree, or family set of trees.
Pollinators include - Doyenne du Comice, Taylors Gold, Williams bon Cretien, Winter Cole, Winter Nelis, Nashi Hosui and Nashi Nijiseiki.
