Beurre Hardy pear trees originated about 1820 in Boulogne, France and named after M. Hardy, Director of Arboriculture at the Luxembourg Gardens. It is also known as the 'French Butter Pear'.

The Beurre Hardy pear tree produces excellent autumn pears with medium to large fruit russeted greenish-yellow.

This cold-hardy variety of the classic Beurre Bosc pear is known for its adaptability to cooler climates, making it suitable for many regions of New Zealand. This pear variety is very hardy, are heavy croppers, resistant to scab and the flowers cope well with late spring frosts.

Beurre Hardy pears ripen in late autumn and offer a delicious buttery, melting, flesh with an aromatic rosy scent and is often dripping of juice! Ideal for fresh eating or baking.
