'Wild Wood' is a sport of the native New Zealand large common flax, forming robust clumps of broad, purple/bronze/green leaves. It is an excellent choice for low shelter and erosion control. Great for filling a big space 'out the back' of the garden. The beautiful red flower heads arise above the foliage from January to March and the nectar are very, very attractive to native birds (especially Tui & Bellbirds) and bees.
Phormium tenax is a vigorous grower that tolerates a wide range of sites including swampy and coastal. 'Wild Wood', is pretty much Phormium tenax purpurea. This flax will get big in time so give it some space. Can grow to 1.5 - 2.0 x 1.5m.
