This New Zealand selected flowering cherry smothers itself in pale pink blossoms in spring. A good vigorous disease resistant variety that is now a proven performer throughout the world. Prunus yedoensis Awanui was selected from trees planted by Keith Adams, one of Taranaki’s many world-famous nurserymen.
Prunus Awanui is ideal as a large shade tree or avenue planting. Different from other flowering cherries in that the horizontal branches drape softly almost to ground level.
Flowering Cherries are generally hardy but should be planted in a sheltered site to prolong the flowering period. Don’t allow them to dry out during hot dry periods. Stake well until established. 5x4m
